Princess Theodora of Greece Postpones Royal Wedding Due to COVID-19

A second royal wedding has officially been postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Princess Theodora of Greece and her fiancé, LA-based lawyer Matthew Kumar, were originally set to get married later this month on the Greek island of Spetses, but given the continued uncertainties surrounding travel and large gatherings, the couple have opted to put off their nuptials.

The Greek Royal House, which released a statement about the postponement over the weekend, didn't specify a new date; understandable, as there are a lot of moving variables and unknowns facing brides-to-be these days.

Princess Theodora is the youngest daughter of the former King of Greece, Constantine II, and his wife, Queen Anne-Marie, formerly Princess Anne-Marie of Denmark. (The Greek monarchy was abolished in 1973, but the family has retained its royal titles.) Princess Theodara is also, importantly, the goddaughter of the Queen. Her father and Prince Charles are second cousins, meaning that she is distantly related to Princess Beatrice, whose royal wedding was also postponed earlier this year.

Princess Theodora and Matthew Kumar Met in America

Princess Theodora, 36, was born in London but currently lives in Los Angeles, where she's been pursuing acting for the better part of a decade under the stage name Theodora Greece. (She has a long-running role on the much-beloved soap opera, The Bold and the Beautiful, as secretary Alison Montgomery.) It was in Los Angeles that she met Kumar, a lawyer, several years later. Though it's unclear when exactly the pair started dating, Theodora has been posting about Kumar since at least May 2016.

The Couple Got Engaged in November 2018

The pair got engaged in late 2018, and Princess Theodora excitedly shared the news to her Instagram, along with several elegant black-and-white engagement photos. "Words can't express our happiness and excitement," she wrote in the caption. "I can't wait to marry this wonderful man. I love you Matt."

Theodora's brother, Crown Prince Pavlos, commented with a string of emojis: "So happy for you both 💑❤️👏🏻🇬🇷🇺🇸."

Theodora's parents also expressed their excitement at the engagement news, albeit in slightly more formal terms. "Their Majesties King Constantine and Queen Anne-Marie are delighted to announce the engagement of their youngest daughter Theodora to Mr. Matthew Kumar," the former royals said in a statement.

Their Guest List Would Have Been Star-Studded

Between Theodora's royal ties and her Hollywood connections, the pair's wedding guest list would no doubt have made the wedding quite the star-studded fete. Prince Charles, who is her father's second cousin, and Prince William, who is her father's godson, were expected to attend the wedding, according to the Daily Mail. It's unclear whether the Queen would have attended, though it is likely that she would have, given that she is Theodora's godmother. Theodora's aunt, Queen Sofia of Spain, would likely have attended, as would have King Felipe of Spain.

It's unclear which of Theodora's current The Bold and the Beautiful costars would have made the trip out to Spetses, Greece, but some of her on-screen colleagues from over the years include Katherine Kelly Lang, Scott Clifton, and John McCook.
