Twice a year, The Knot Editors attend New York Bridal Fashion Week to absorb the upcoming wave of wedding dress trends for the year ahead. We know that wedding dress production takes time due to the supply chain pipeline, from the complexity of procuring the fabrics all the way to the immense quality of stitching and beading that goes into every piece. For Spring-Summer 2027, the editors viewed hundreds (if not thousands) of new wedding dress styles over the span of four days during private appointments with designers and from front row seats at bridal runway shows.

We did spot a few common themes in collections from designers like Hayley Paige, Monique Lhuillier, Justin Alexander and many more, and it couldn't be more apparent that there's a little something for everyone out there. It took a moment, but the editors regrouped at the end of bridal week to report on the most popular styles that'll hit bridal salons next year. Voilà: the biggest wedding dress trends you'll see in 2027 (and likely 2028).

Mark our words: In 2027, one of the most popular wedding dress trends will be the resurgence of strapless wedding gowns. The strapless wedding dress is back, baby–but with an updated perspective. Every designer featured a strapless silhouette (or several) this season, yet differentiated from the traditional straight-across neckline with a modern twist (literally, at times) to vary the styles. Examples included cat-eye necklines at Anne Barge, Lee Petra Grebenau and Sareh Nouri, as well as a scalloped neckline at Elie Saab. Notably, a floral, bouquet-like trim from both Saab and Viktor & Rolf brought the concept of the bride-as-the-bouquet to life. The incomparable Ines Di Santo went with dominant dew drop necklines, oval or "ellipses" necklines, as quoted by Veronica Di Santo. Kyha Scott of KYHA leaned into an envelope neckline for a modern touch, as well as a curved semi-sweetheart style to evoke the sense of oceanic waves for her new collection. Additionally, lace-lined busts were bold choices at Pnina Tornai, Sarah Seven and SEPT.

The Basque-Drop Waist Hybrid Draped Waists

If basque waists and drop waists had a love child, it would be this. We all know that both drop-waist wedding dresses and basque-waist bridal gowns emerged and had their moment in prior years. Starting in 2027 and beyond, the two may blur together, something we noticed with draped waists (for example at KYHA) for more definition, according to the designer. We also saw curved dropped waists, and a drop-basque hybrid against a strapless illusion neckline at Ines Di Santo's runway show. And finally, while Galia Lahav was unable to formally present at NYBFW this season, the collection for spring showcases several lace designs that marry the two together.

Unexpected Muted Color

White, ivory, eggshell and ecru—the classics are classic for a reason. But a clear Spring-Summer 2027 wedding dress trend signals a shift toward muted colors. Hues of creamy butter yellow, dusty rose and light blue appear in collections by Anne Barge, Hayley Paige, Pnina Tornai and Mark Ingram. Inspired by Claude Monet's dreamlike floral masterpieces, Gustavo Verdin's designs feature delicate pastel ribbons lining veils and accentuating waistlines. HONOR, known for its frilly, feminine looks, highlights gowns in pistachio green, dreamy lilac and warm blush. Nardos, on the other hand, is a frequent champion of color, and the latest collection is proof; standout styles include a silk organza gown with hand-painted light blue flowers and a strapless blush dress with embroidered green ivy. While it could take decades for colored wedding dresses to truly become "mainstream," the upcoming season promises a plethora of pigmentation for to-be-weds who want to don a wearable work of art.

Micro Bows

Girly girls, rejoice. Bows aren't going away any time soon, they're just getting smaller. (And, by proxy, even more charming.) Tiny ties adorned gowns by Hayley Paige, HONOR and Mira Zwillinger, proving this accent will remain a popular wedding dress trend in 2027. A highlight of Sareh Nouri's new collection is the Maryam, an Italian stretch Mikado ball gown with bows lining the entire back of the dress, all the way down the train. In Savannah Miller's "Equillibrium" collection, a slim lace bow accentuates the waist of a square-neck floral brocade ball gown.

Asymmetry

In 2027, prepare to see amped-up visual drama through asymmetry. Ou Ma, the designer behind Vancouver-based atelier OUMA, drew inspiration from Danxia, a rippled, cloud-like landscape found across China for her latest collection. The designs feature layered organza folds, stacked pleats and fluid draping to replicate the ethereal sedimentary terrain. Asymmetrical draped skirts were also seen at Verdin, Monique Lhuillier, Renhue and Katherine Tash. Lopsided necklines were common at Anne Barge, Lela Rose and KYHA, illuminating the beauty of perfectly imperfect silhouettes.

Playful Peplums

It may not be 2012 anymore, but alas: peplums are back. Characterized with a flared strip of fabric extending from the waistline, this figure-flattering design element is a key component of Mira Zwillinger's Spring-Summer 2027 designs. Offering less of a structured take on this new wedding dress trend, soft, romantic lace peplums add a hit of graceful movement to dresses in the latest Poeza and Hayley Paige collections. Dramatic draping also offers voluminous, peplum-like effects at Viktor & Rolf and Ines Di Santo.

Long-Line & Exposed Corsetry

The antithesis of modest dresses is a style that is singularly more provocative and feminine. More designers have embraced exposed corsetry in their spring wedding dress designs, pairing the boning of corsets with ball gowns and other figure-flattering features. While corsetry has long been its own art form, long-line corsetry is also back, cinching the waist and creating a figure-hugging silhouette.

Continued '90s Minimalism

The true OGs have all been inspired by the late Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and her style at some point, but FX's Love Story put JFK Jr.'s wife and the chic minimalism that defined the 1990s on the mainstream marital map. For spring 2027, expect even more slip dresses and gowns; in fact, some designers like Monique Lhuillier and Pnina Tornai even called out Ryan Murphy's show as a point of inspiration with the former naming one of her gowns "Tribeca" in honor of their previous New York City neighborhood. Lhuillier also had a mini version of the slip on display. Alexandra Grecco and Nardos both favored slips in their collections too, some with chandelier beading and the other leaning into an iridescence.

Maximal Fabrics & Appliqués

The beauty of maximalism is that it can be interpreted in a myriad of ways, which is perhaps why it was one of the most defining wedding dress trends for all designers this New York Bridal Fashion Week. Italian Mikado is one of the most commonly used fabrics for Spring-Summer 2027, lending itself to structural shaping and architectural pieces that are impossibly soft yet fluid at the same time. (Plus, its luminous sheen makes dresses feel even more special and luxe). Elie Saab, Sareh Nouri, Poeza, SEPT and Renhue all debuted dresses crafted from this in-demand textile.

Beyond the expected lace patterns, designers like Pnina Tornai and Justin Alexander unveiled gowns with luxe floral brocade and jacquard fabrics. Katherine Tash, Esé Azénabor and Viktor & Rolf offered voluminous ruffles. Oversized floral appliqués appeared in new collections by Lihi Hod, Lela Rose and the garden-like gowns from Nardos. One of the most buzzed-about floral styles was the Jenny Yoo midi with a rosette-studded off-the-shoulder neckline, designed in collaboration with bridal stylist Hope LaVine.

Ornate beading, of course, served as another stunning display of meticulous craftsmanship. Ines Di Santo revealed a nude mermaid dress that required 13,000 hours of work to bring to life. Similarly, Justin Alexander Signature's "Bravura" column gown was the result of 600+ hours of hand-embroidery. Elie Saab, Lihi Hod and Hayley Paige also presented gemstone-encrusted options for brides with a "more is more" mentality. (We see you.)

Draping, Darling

If there's one takeaway to note from New York Bridal Fashion Week, it's that draping will be one of the biggest wedding dress trends of 2027. Our team noted this design detail in just about every collection, in various forms too. The popular presence of Mikado fabric lends itself to delicate (but structured) draping across necklines, seen at Renhue, KYHA and Viktor & Rolf. Liquid-like folds cascade from OUMA's skirts, while gathered fabric adds softness to waistlines at Sarah Seven, Katherine Tash, SEPT and Alexandra Grecco.

Mantilla Veils

Modesty is hot again: a fact we've confirmed by the overwhelming presence of ornate Mantilla veils at New York Bridal Fashion Week. This circular, Spanish-style lace headcovering symbolizes grace and purity, and was historically worn not only as a bridal accessory, but also to cover the hair and shoulders during religious ceremonies. Mantilla veils had an undeniable moment in Spring-Summer 2027 collections by Pnina Tornai, Hayley Paige and Lihi Hod. Furthermore, Maggie Wilson and Tara Strobach, the designers behind Renhue, noted that it was one of their most-requested styles from brides.

The Bridal Midi

A bridal midi, not to be confused with the bridal mini, is having a renaissance moment. Designers ranging from Lee Petra to Jenny Yoo all showcased several midi styles for spring 2027, but each was tastefully elevated with crystals, pearls, fascinating fabric detailing, and other materials. While not exactly considered a column midi, Sareh Nouri revealed a tulle tea-length design paired with a bolero. While this length of a dress is often a captivating choice for the wedding reception outfit swap or the rehearsal dinner, designers were keen on embracing and elevating the midi dress this season.

Unexpected Accessories

While there's no denying the beauty of a clean, simple gown, bold accents were an unexpected (yet completely welcome) motif at New York Bridal Fashion Week. The ultra-popular neck scarf appeared in countless presentations, but editors also noted a bigger variety of outfit enhancers. Take, for instance, the bridal choker by Watters, or the Victorian-esque pearl collar necklace paired with a new Pnina Tornai gown. SEPT highlighted a fringe-lined shawl, while fingerless gloves appeared in collections for Lee Petra Grebenau and Justin Alexander Signature. Collections from Verdin, Batsheva, Watters and Jenny Yoo included more than a few capelets. A pearl crossbody strap at Lihi Hod, a Peter Pan collar bolero at HONOR, and a cowboy hat topped with a veil at Hayley Paige (like the iconic look from The Parent Trap, but country) were some of the more avant-garde bridal accessories that are poised to accompany the top wedding dress trends of 2027.
