Who is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's Husband, Andre Levrone?
Olympic gold medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is married to former NFL player Andre Levrone. The 29-year-old Maryland native played football throughout his childhood and went on to attend the University of Virginia. Throughout his NFL career, he played for the Ravens, the Carolina Panthers, and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He retired in 2020 after three seasons.
How Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Andre Levrone Met
In our cover story interview, McLaughlin-Levrone revealed that, as a hopeless romantic, she long dreamt of the day she'd find her soul mate. "Ever since I was very young, I always looked forward to the day when I would get married," she explained. "I've made that such a big part of my life. I was constantly looking throughout my teenage years, throughout college, into early adulthood. A big part of meeting my fiancé had to do with the evolution of my faith, finding who I am in Christ and submitting all my plans to God. Not long after I did that, I met Andre."
The connection came through a mutual friend who McLaughlin-Levrone knew from high school. (That friend later went to college with Levrone.) "We didn't interact until he slid into my DMs. We started off as friends," the track star recalled. "He asked me to do Bible study with him and introduced me to a group of really great people who were encouraging and very mature. It was the first time I was in a relationship with a man who I felt could lead me in my faith to a place where I wanted to be."
Thanks to their similar outlook on dating and love, the athletes knew their connection was the real deal from the very beginning. "We both knew early on that we liked each other and what our intentions were. If I could say the one thing about our relationship, it's that it was always very intentional," she continued. "Honestly, I knew the fourth day we ever talked."
Looking back, McLaughlin-Levrone considered the early days of their romance to be "perfect"—including a second date that didn't go according to plan. "We went to the beach, brought food and realized we forgot forks," she recalled. "We ate salmon with our bare hands! It's become an inside joke now—I carry forks with me everywhere I go. But it was such a bonding moment for us."
Inside Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Andre Levrone's Engagement
Considering their seriousness from the start, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and her husband did not shy away from planning their future. "We had lots of conversations about getting married," she recalled. "I even made a Pinterest board and added him!"
Alas, their spring 2021 proposal wasn't a complete surprise for the Olympian. "I was in Arizona celebrating my birthday with a group of girlfriends and I was very suspicious that he was going to just pop in," she remembers, adding, "I wasn't sure why."
When she left her room just before dinner and saw a videographer nearby, her curiosity was piqued. "I paused and thought, what? My friend jumps in and says, I saw you did a birthday vlog a couple of years ago and it was terrible so we're gonna make a new one. So we made a vlog on the way to dinner. We get to the front desk of the hotel and I'm handed a card that says, 'I'm sorry I can't be there to celebrate with you but I have a surprise for you on the lawn.'"
Of course, when she went outside, she was met by Levrone, who got down on one knee. "I honestly don't remember what we talked about," she says. "I kept thinking, don't fall. Don't look ugly in these pictures. It was so sweet and very surreal."
