The beautiful area along the Northern California coastline is iconic for its stunning views of steep cliffs leading to the Pacific Ocean, as well as its forests full of redwood trees. While pretty much any spot alongside the Pacific Coast Highway in Big Sur could serve as a wonderful spot to pop the question, there are a few key locations that are particularly lovely thanks to their natural beauty. 1. Bixby Creek Bridge

The iconic Bixby Creek Bridge of Big Sur made even more famous by the Max hit show Big Little Lies is also a beautiful, scenic spot to pop the question. While walking on the bridge itself is not advised, you can get out of your car at either Castle Rock Viewpoint or Hurricane Point View to take photos of the beautiful coastline and get down on one knee. While the bridge is beautiful at any time of day, try going at golden hour or sunset for one of the best Big Sur proposal spots.
2. Pfeiffer Beach
Known for its caves and purple sand, Pfeiffer Beach is a perfect spot for a proposal by the water in Big Sur. The state beach is easy to access and has a large swath of sand on which to stage your engagement. If you share a dog with your partner, the beach is also pup-friendly so you can have them join in the special moment.
3. Garrapata State Park Beach
Enjoy two miles of coastline with sandy beach and hiking at Garrapata State Park just north of Big Sur. If you and your significant other don't mind a small climb, take the 50-foot hike to a stunning viewpoint overlooking the Pacific Ocean where you can pop the question. Along with those great views, you can even spot sea lions, seals and occasionally whales crossing during their yearly migration at this beach.

4. Calla Lily Valley

Want to get engaged to your special someone amongst a field of flowers? Head to Calla Lily Valley, a spot near Garrapata State Park that blooms with tall calla lilies from mid-February to March. Be sure to time it right and visit this destination as a pit stop off the Pacific Coast Highway for an extra special backdrop to your proposal.
5. Nepenthe
One of the most famous restaurants in all of Big Sur is Nepenthe. With beautiful water views out on the patio, you can easily convince your partner to make a pit stop at this classic spot. Just remember there aren't any reservations so you might have to wait a bit before the big moment.

A luxury resort amongst the pines, Ventana Big Sur is the perfect Northern Californian destination for a romantic proposal turned engagement trip.
