Our experience at Art Factory (AF) was a very mixed bag. We liked that it was atypical, interesting, fairly cheap, involved customization, and included everything in one price. We were also impressed by the charm and passion of the owner David.... In the end, we did have a beautiful wedding but there were many issues along the way.
The all-inclusive price covered: venue, transportation, parking, security, day of assistance, all decor, all lighting, food, tableware, chairs, setup, cleanup, service of food and alcohol, music setup, and all taxes/fees/gratuity (i.e. no extra charges for that).
Our biggest problems were with communication and consistency. The staff overall is AWFUL about communicating. It was very difficult to arrange tastings, talk about our decor with the right people, and get CONSISTENT answers about what AF could and could not do. David seems to mean well, but he over-promises the details and only really is in charge of the big picture. One big suggestion for future brides: IF YOU WORK WITH AF, GET EVERY SINGLE THING YOU ARE PROMISED IN WRITING. We were promised lots of customizations, personal attention, and a truly unique wedding experience. In reality, we got a nice wedding that was very similar to their other weddings and we had to repeatedly ask for details and confirmations about every single thing we wanted.
The day of the wedding had many hiccups. Our wedding was set up was more or less correctly, though I had to personally keep checking on everything to make adjustments. I was able to catch a lot of things, such as misnumbering the tables. But some things -- no lights wrapped around the poles as requested, the incorrect number of place settings at tables, the terrible and incomplete handwriting on the seating chart they had made while we took photos -- were not fixed by AF.
As for the food, we were DELIGHTED with the quality. It was all delicious, delivered warmly, we had enough of, and was liked by everyone. Chef Jonathan even made special meals for someone with a food intolerance (not discussed beforehand) and for vegetarians (cleared beforehand).
However, the worst part of the night was that they messed up the food timing. We were supposed to have tapas from 4:30-8:30 and then dessert around 9. This was in writing. Instead, they served tapas from about 4:15-7 and then almost immediately brought out dessert after. I was very upset but it was too late to do anything.
A few other notes: we had no issues with storing our supplies and alcohol safely. The service of all the food was good. Just about all the promised tables, chairs, silverware, and decor were eventually set up, with some prodding by us. We were able to take pictures throughout the venue before the wedding and were very happy with how they turned out. The trolleys worked nicely, although the A/C was not very strong.
Overall, the AF is a beautiful space with passionate people working there, trying hard to create something new and fresh and custom and different. However, they lack things -- communication skills, experience, attention to detail, ability to hold on to staff members, consistency -- to make that truly happen to the standard of most brides. I was overall fairly happy with how my wedding turned out, but it involved so much stress and effort on my part, when the whole point of using AF was that everything would be done by one vendor, seamlessly and easily and customized.
