Whether you're going on vacation to the Hawaiian islands or live there full time, an Oahu proposal is a truly magical experience. Plus, there are plenty of amazing photographers and proposal planners on Oahu you can find on The Knot Vendor Marketplace to make the experience extra special.

If you want to narrow down your search of where to propose in Oahu, we have some ideas that are sure to create a romantic ambiance. Read ahead to see some of the best Oahu proposal ideas for your engagement.

1. Lanikai Beach

Named one of the best beaches in the world, Lanikai Beach is also a great spot to pop the question. "Lanikai Beach has beautifully soft, white sand with the Nā Mokulua twin islands in the back," says wedding and proposal photographer Kim Raaf. "A stretch of this beach is often lined with outrigger boats. Lanikai is on the east coast, making it a perfect sunrise spot for photos with a light and airy vibe."

2. Kailua Beach Park

Just around the corner from Lanikai Beach is Kailua Beach Park. The benefit of this popular piece of shoreline is it has similar vibes and views as Lanikai, but also offers lifeguards, public restrooms, picnic tables and kayaking. If you want to have your surprise proposal tied into a fun beach day, this could be the perfect Oahu proposal spot for you.

3. Papa'iloa Beach

"Papa'iloa is located on Oahu's north shore and is the best spot for sunset photos," Raaf says. "It's more secluded than many beaches so you're likely to not have too many spectators. If you're lucky, you can see green sea turtles in the waves or even taking a rest on the beach, which is a totally magical experience for an engagement shoot."

4. Kualoa Ranch

Want to experience the gorgeous tropical terrain seen in Jurassic Park? Head to Kualoa Ranch, where the famous movie was filmed. The ranch provides a number of great activities to incorporate into your visit like horseback riding and e-bike tours. These adventures can be a fun precursor to your proposal. You can even host a wedding at the ranch if you want to return to your engagement location.

5. Crouching Lion Hike

If you and your partner love to go on a great hike, then take one to your perfect proposal location. "Crouching Lion Hike is pretty easy and rewards you with a stunning panoramic view of the coastline on one side and lush mountain on the other," Raaf says. "The final spot as well as the whole hike are super photogenic and offer many spots for photos, also for a more documentary-style session of the journey."

6. Diamond Head State Monument

A hike up to the top of the Diamond Head State Monument is a favorite activity for visitors of Oahu. At the summit, you can enjoy stunning views of Honolulu and the island coastline. It's also a wonderful backdrop as you get down on one knee for a proposal. Definitely be sure to hire a photographer to capture the moment.

7. Waimea Falls

Another beautiful 1.5-mile hike along the Waimea River in Northern Oahu leads to a stunning waterfall. This spot is a fun place to take a swim, have a picnic and get down on one knee for an Oahu waterfall proposal. You do have to pay for entry into Waimea Valley and wear a life jacket in the river, so take note of this before you head to the trail.

8. Hanauma Bay State Park

Hanauma Bay is a favorite destination on Oahu thanks to its beautiful beach and reef that's perfect for snorkeling. After an afternoon of viewing all the marine life underwater, head to the shore for your beach proposal. If you're hiring an Oahu proposal photographer, you may also need to book them a ticket to access the beach as well.

9. Ka'a'awa Beach Park

"Ka'a'awa Beach unites a few typical Oahu visuals in one frame," Raaf shares. "Besides soft and light sand and light blue water, you also find those iconic high palm trees, all framed by the majestic Ko'olau Mountain Range. This is my favorite beach for moody, cloudy weather when the fog clings to the mountains."

10. On the Water

One of the best ways to experience the Oahu coastline is from the water. Book a boat cruise to tour the island and pop the question. Whether during the day or at sunset, you'll definitely be able to have stunning photos of the romantic experience.
