How to Pull Off a Proposal and Surprise Engagement Party That's So Cape Cod

Planning a proposal is pressure enough, but pairing that with an engagement party soiree for the same evening takes some real leg work.

Matt and Josh after a surprise proposal at Cape Cod

A planned trip to Cape Cod turned into a seaside-inspired (surprise) proposal and engagement party! When Matt Mills decided he was going to pop the question to long-time boyfriend Josh White, he pulled out all the stops with the help of Karson Butler Events. During a walk along the beach, Matt proposed to Josh in front of a beach cottage that was elegantly decorated with rustic lanterns hung from the ceiling, wreaths of lush white flowers adorning the double doors and a dining table set for two with champagne and charcuterie. Josh said "yes!" and, an hour later, Matt surprised Josh again with a totally decked out engagement party.

A fully stocked cocktail bar was awaiting the newly engaged couple and their guests on the side porch of the cottage, outfitted with gin, wine and mason jars that had custom calligraphy signage by Meant To Be Calligraphy. Following cocktails was a family-style dinner by the beach, complete with overhead bistro lighting, and styled with white linens, mercury candle votives and low centerpieces of hydrangea, white roses and greenery designed by Dragonfly Wedding Flowers & Event Design. If you ask us, it doesn't get much more romantic or Cape Cod-inspired than this captured by Abby Jiu Photography.
