Celebrity Makeup Artists Say Every To-Be-Wed Should Use This Beauty Product

Not only have celebs like Meghan Markle and Hailey Bieber rocked natural, dewy wedding makeup, pop culture characters (think: Daphne in Bridgerton) have been wearing the look too. Celebrity makeup artists love it because it gives an effortlessly gorgeous glow, but also because it's so easy to use. "Cream blush is great for weddings because it's romantic, effortless and easy," says celebrity makeup artist Nydia Figueroa. "It's a great way to add a healthy and beautiful glow to the skin without too much product." Ready to get shopping? Read all about this celeb makeup artist must-have and how to apply it, below.
Why Celebrity Makeup Artists Love Cream Blush
In light of the coronavirus (and the zooms and facetimes that accompanied it), we've been confronted with our appearance more than ever before. And while there's pressure to change our appearance because of social media face filters, many celebrity makeup artists are pushing for a more natural look—and they say that cream blush is the perfect product to achieve just that. "I think cream blush keeps the face fresh and approachable," says Lynda J Pearce, celebrity makeup artist and the pro behind Daphne Bridgerton's fresh-faced glow. "It allows your natural glow to come through and natural beauty to shine."
Because of its creamy texture, the product melts into your skin and blends in seamlessly for an undetectable finish. "It gives a fresh softness to the face," Pearce says. You get color and warmth without the harshness of a powder blush." If you're dreaming of a no-makeup makeup look (or something simply more natural) for your big day, this popular product is for you. "Cream blushes are beautiful for wedding makeup because it truly looks like the blush is coming from within and not sitting on top of the skin," Figueroa says.
How to Apply Cream Blush
Another reason pros love cream blush? It's incredibly easy to apply. You can use a brush, a sponge or your fingers (yes, really!). Both Figueroa and Pearce say their favorite method of application is with a brush, however. "I love to apply cream blush with a dense yet soft brush like a kabuki or duo fiber," Figueroa says. "These two types of brushes work well to grab the cream blush with ease and apply it flawlessly to the skin." Using a sponge will give you a softer, more diffused finish while using your fingers to dab the product will help with blending. "The warmth of [your] fingers will allow the product to melt into the skin," Figueroa adds.
Once you choose your application tool, place the product on the apples of your cheeks. "This is found when you smile," Pearce says. "It sits between the center of the eye and the outer edge of your eyebrow." Pro tip: Try not to apply the blush in towards the center of your face, as this will close it off.
Another tip? "Don't over apply, and make sure you blend it out," Pearce says. "Cream blushes should look soft and fresh and sit naturally on the face." Additionally, if you want your blush to last all day (read: through your potentially tearful vows and late-night dancing), you might need to set it. "I love to use cream blush as a base before applying powder blush especially if I want the blush to last all day," Figueroa says. If you have an oily skin type, you can also take this approach and set the creamy color with translucent powder.
If you want to get a little more creative, try monochromatic wedding makeup. Use your favorite cream blush for your eye makeup and lip color too. The end result will be an effortless, on-trend look. (Psst: Don't forget to add bronzer, waterproof mascara and eyeliner to tie the look together).
