17 of the Best Places to Propose in Kansas
If you're planning on popping the question, you're probably trying to figure out two things—what is the most romantic way to propose and where you should actually do it. When it comes to the best places to propose in Kansas, there are a ton of gorgeous spots to consider, but we've rounded up 17 picks to help you narrow things down.
We spoke with Chelsea McGee, a wedding photographer in Kansas City, Kansas, who has experience capturing proposals, to help us figure out the best proposal spots in the state. She also provided a few on the Missouri side of Kansas City for those interested in Missouri proposal ideas.
Once you choose a location, McGee recommends visiting to scout out a specific spot you like. If you aren't able to do that, ask your proposal photographer you found on The Knot Vendor Marketplace if they have shot there before and see if they have any tips. "Deciding where to propose shouldn't be stressful though," she says. "If you are stressed about it or concerned, just ask your photographer. That's why you hire us to consult on things like this."

Bonus Recommendations in Kansas City, Missouri
McGee offered a few bonus proposal spots on the Missouri side of Kansas City, in case you're interested in an urban proposal.
Union Station
As one of Kansas City's most iconic landmarks, Union Station provides a grand and historic proposal location. Get down on one knee under the famous 95-foot-high ceilings in the Grand Hall or beneath the vintage clock for a picture-perfect moment. Keep in mind that it's a very public place, so make sure you and your partner are okay with having a bit of an audience present. "Especially at Christmastime, this place is very public and you most likely will not have the place to yourselves," McGee explains. There is also a small photography fee, so take that into consideration while you're proposal planning.
Prospero's Books
This indie bookstore offers an eclectic, literary vibe for book-loving couples. With its cozy corners filled with shelves of books, you can find a quiet, intimate spot to propose surrounded by stories and poetry. It's an ideal place for a low-key but thoughtful proposal. "If you are book lovers, this three-story bookstore is the perfect spot," McGee says. Speak with your proposal planner or photographer about the photography fees and policies.
Unity Village
With Mediterranean-inspired architecture, fountains and gardens, Unity Village is a highly recommended proposal spot in Kansas City. Propose in one of its gorgeous courtyards or near a fountain under the blue sky. "[Unity Village] offers such a great variety of nature and architecture," McGee says. "There is a photography pass required to photograph on-site, but the images are beautiful."
Loose Park
Known for its iconic Rose Garden, Loose Park has more than 4,000 roses in bloom during summer, making it one of the most romantic spots in the city. Propose in the garden, surrounded by fragrant roses, or under a cherry tree for a picturesque moment. That being said, McGee suggests that the park is lovely even outside of those times, especially by the pond and large willow tree.
Nelson-Atkins Museum's Sculpture Garden
The sculpture garden at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is a stunning place for artistic couples to get engaged. With impressive art installations, it makes for a playful yet refined spot for a proposal. "Everyone in Kansas City knows The Nelson and its beautiful grounds.
