These flowing wedding looks have serious opulent appeal, with glittering beaded work and detailed craftsmanship. Between the feminine silhouettes and luxe materials, these elegant gowns also make a statement in the bridal industry. Elie Saab's 2022 collection turns heads with voluminous drama, luscious textures, and grand sophistication.

Elie Saab History

Lebanese-born designer Elie Saab knew that he wanted to work in the fashion industry by the age of nine while designing for his sisters and using them as models. Despite being mostly self-taught, he held his first fashion show in 1982 at only 18 years old. As Saab's reputation grew across the Middle East, it wasn't long before people around the world were admiring his incredible designs. "I think working in fashion was more my destiny than anything else," Saab told Vogue. His success has expanded outside of the bridal and ready-to-wear fashion industry with business ventures in fragrance, shoes, jewelry, and bags.

Now, the father of three sons, Saab divides his time working between Beirut and Paris with international boutiques that include Paris, London, and Dubai.

Collection History and Other Elie Saab Labels

No matter the occasion, Elie Saab has the fashion lover covered. In 1998, Saab debuted his first ready-to-wear collection in Italy and hit Paris for the first time with it in 2006. In 2003, he partnered with Barcelona-based Pronovias to create his bridal line Elie by Elie Saab. Inspired by travel and the city of Beirut, Saab's early collections paid tribute to his unique experiences and has evolved while still maintaining the dramatic feel with a regal, worldly, and sophisticated vibe. In addition to these luxe lines, Saab also has a haute couture collection along with eyewear, accessories, and fragrance lines.

Saab expanded into interior design in 2019 by partnering with a developer to design the residential interiors for a luxury beachfront property in Dubai. These interiors will be just the start with boutique fashion stores that boast the Saab personal touch.

Celebs Who've Worn Elie Saab

Queen Rania of Jordan selected a stunning Elie Saab gown for her husband's coronation in 1999 but that was only the beginning of dressing both Hollywood and real-life royalty. In 2002, Halle Berry wore a sheer and taffeta burgundy Elie Saab gown to the Oscars when she won and it's since become an iconic awards show look. This not only launched his red-carpet career but also cemented his spot in history as that night, Berry became the first African-American woman to win an Oscar. "She wore it out of love, not because a stylist told her to wear it. That is the force behind wearing my designs," Saab told The Telegraph. "Everything comes from the heart."

From Angelina Jolie at the Oscars to Beyoncé, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Priyanka Chopra, Celine Dion, Kate Winslet, and Gal Godot, Saab has continued to dress celebrities for major A-lister moments.

Kate Middleton also joined the ranks of Saab supporters in 2019 when she donned a periwinkle beaded Elie Saab dress to the Royal Ascot.

Interesting Elie Saab Facts

Kate Winslet's wax figure at Madame Tussauds is modeling the red Elie Saab gown she wore to the 2011 Emmy Awards.

It's no surprise that Saab is a celebrity whisperer but some forget just how strongly his aesthetic speaks to them. Take for example the time in 2014 Angelina Jolie and Jane Fonda showed up to the rep carpet wearing the same gown — in different colors — just months apart. Along with other designers including Versace, he also helped to design outfits for Beyoncé's 2007 tour.

In 2019, Saab's son, Elie Saab Jr, married Christina Mourad in a lavish Swarovski beaded ball gown that her new father-in-law designed. But he also created show-stopping looks for the bride for celebrations throughout the entire weekend that made a major statement.
