The Best Time of the Year for a Phoenix Proposal
Phoenix is notoriously hot in the summer with temperatures easily hovering in the 110s. That said, we'd steer clear of a midday outdoor proposal from June through September and instead stick to dawn or dusk for better weather. The rest of the year is fair game with gorgeous weather and consistently sunny skies. If you want to propose in the summertime, consider heading just out of town for cooler weather in Sedona, Jerome, Wickenburg, Flagstaff or even Tucson—all within two to three hours of the valley.

1. Desert Botanical Garden
Centrally located, the Desert Botanical Garden is a wonderland of desert plants and cacti—some extremely rare. The garden also showcases rotating art installations throughout the garden, which means it's always evolving. That said, it's a gorgeous place to ask your big question. As for where to propose in the botanical garden in Phoenix, Arizona, it has little pockets everywhere that you can tuck into for a more private moment. Consider the wildflower garden, desert wildflower trail, Sonoran Desert nature trail or one of the pavilions.
2. Wrigley Mansion
The Wrigley Mansion is a historic estate that sits high and offers gorgeous views of the valley. "It's so romantic," says Tess Gearhart, an Arizona-based wedding photographer. "The views are stunning and the sun rays in the dining room are beautiful at sunset. Also, the grassy hill on the side would be such a pretty place to propose at sunset."
3. Cosanti
Cosanti is a super creative place to propose in Phoenix, thanks to its earthy, texturally rich setting. "Cosanti in Scottsdale would be so freaking cool for a proposal," Gearhart says. "It's an art gallery and the colors are just stunning and natural and organic. It was also used as inspiration for Star Wars (if anyone is a Star Wars buff)." If you like this vibe, also consider Arcosanti, which is a much larger version of Cosanti that's located an hour north of the valley.
4. Rancho de Los Caballeros
Looking for an Arizona dude ranch proposal? You cannot go wrong with Rancho de Los Caballeros in Wickenburg, about an hour north of Phoenix. This historic, sprawling campus—built in 1948—is Arizona cowboy personified. We suggest making a weekend out of it so you can partake in the delicious food, luxury rustic accommodations, horseback riding, cowboy BBQs and spa. The team there can set up a proposal itinerary for you.
5. Papago Park
One of our favorite free proposal ideas in Phoenix is Papago Park, a centrally located, stunning landmark noted for its red rock formations and beautiful desert landscapes. There's also a lake here and beautiful trails that provide a ton of variety in terms of proposal spots. You could also propose in the "Hole in the Rock," which involves a quick hike to a scenic overlook.
6. Creekside Estates
Creekside Estates—located in Peoria, Arizona—is a gorgeous, family-owned location that's perfect for a Phoenix proposal. "It's a private, serene haven featuring four unique, beautiful homes, charming water features, a picturesque bridge and plenty of lush greenery," says Brittany Woods, an Arizona wedding and lifestyle photographer. "This estate offers an intimate, secluded atmosphere, perfect for a personal and unforgettable engagement experience."
7. Jerome, Arizona
If you're willing to drive a couple of hours for an epic place to propose in Arizona, Jerome is a cool, creative and historic option. This artsy town—which is nestled into the foothills—is filled with shops and eateries. "I know this is a bit far away, but it's still worth mentioning. It is so quaint and quiet," Gearhart says. "It's also super, super inclusive for queer people! There are so many wineries and the view of Sedona from Jerome is so unmatched."
8. Roosevelt Row Arts District
Those in the market for more of an urban setting should definitely mosey on down to Roosevelt Row, endearingly referred to as "Ro-Ro" by locals. Located in downtown Phoenix, this strip is filled with striking graffiti and tons of indie restaurants, art galleries and cool shops you can tuck into for an indoor or outdoor proposal. On First Fridays (the first Friday of the month) this area really comes alive, so make note of that if you like the idea of a public proposal or want to keep it more chill.
9. Watson Lake
Located just outside of Prescott, you'll find Watson Lake, an other-worldly shallow lake filled with boulders that reflect the color of the sky. Gearhart says, "Watson Lake is a super great option for a picnic and little date night that leads to a proposal for outdoorsy people. It's also a great way to escape the Phoenix heat without going too far." She also recommends the patio at The Barley Hound at nighttime for its cozy vibes.
10. Sedona, Arizona
Speaking of getting out of the heat, Sedona is super close to Phoenix—about 60 to 90 minutes away, depending on your location—and is easily one of the most beautiful places in the entire world. Here, you'll find majestic landscapes featuring towering red rocks. There are lots of trails you can take for a seriously epic proposal moment. Some of our favorites include Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock and Devil's Bridge.
11. Sahuaro Ranch Park
Located in Glendale, the historic Sahuaro Ranch Park offers a romantic and picturesque setting for a marriage proposal thanks to 17 acres of lush rose gardens, historic buildings and scenic open spaces. The park's charming, rustic atmosphere, with vintage ranch structures and towering palm trees, provides a timeless backdrop for a heartfelt moment.
12. Superstition Mountains
The Superstition Mountains are viewable from Phoenix, but we recommend driving toward Apache Junction to get up close and personal with this stunning park. It offers a breathtakingly dramatic setting for a Phoenix proposal via its rugged peaks, sweeping desert landscapes and golden sunsets. Nearby, you'll find the Elvis Chapel and Goldfield Ghost Town—both are in the Superstition shadows and make for a kitschy Phoenix proposal.
13. Japanese Friendship Garden of Phoenix
For a chill, quiet and intimate proposal idea in Phoenix, consider adding the Japanese Friendship Garden to your shortlist. It's located in downtown Phoenix, but the second you step inside, it feels like you've entered a completely different part of the world.
