Designer Anne Barge Signature Style

Anne Barge wedding gowns are often characterized by a "modern classical" style. Inspired by vintage couture, founder Anne Barge Clegg creates dresses that exude time-honored style and grace mixed with design elements that speak to the modern trends. Over the years, Anne Barge has developed a signature look, including style elements like full skirt silhouettes, off-the-shoulder sleeves, statement bows, lace detailing, and an underlying sense of Southern elegance embodied by the founder herself.

A Brief History of Wedding Dress Designer Anne Barge

Anne Barge Clegg got her start in the wedding industry in 1969 while working at the famed design house, Priscilla of Boston. From there, the Georgia native later opened her first bridal store in Atlanta where she worked with local brides for many years before unveiling her debut collection in 1999. Clegg gravitated towards vintage couture as her source of inspiration and soon made a name for herself amongst classic and discerning brides.

Today, Anne Barge Clegg's protégé Shawne Jacobs serves as Creative Director of the company and President of its parent company, where she leads the design of Anne Barge 2022 collections and development of the four labels housed within the brand. Over the past 20 years, Anne Barge has become an institution within the bridal industry and has expanded to serve a worldwide clientele.

Other Anne Barge Labels

Anne Barge is home to four labels including Anne Barge, Blue Willow Bride by Anne Barge, Curve Couture, and Anne Barge Black Label. The original namesake label is designed as the epitome of classic bridal style. Priced between $2,000 and $8,000, the signature Anne Barge wedding dress label prides itself on premier craftsmanship with keen attention to detail, from initial fabric selection all the way to embellishments, and every step in between.

Blue Willow Bride by Anne Barge was launched in 2012 as a label meant to reach a broader range of brides shopping within a more moderate budget. The Blue Willow bride will find the same signature Anne Barge aesthetic made with more cost-effective fabrics to accommodate the more accessible price point. Additionally, Curve Couture joined the Anne Barge bridal family in 2016 as a rotating trunk show, featuring size-inclusive dress samples from size 16 and up.

The Anne Barge Black Label includes couture evening wear available for special order. The label maintains the classic style of its signature wedding gowns translated into a special occasion look.

Anne Barge Collection History

Although the brand had made already earned a highly regarded reputation for itself in the bridal industry, the label gained further popularity when Anne Barge wedding dresses were selected for the wedding episodes of several popular television series. In 2017, Kerry Washington put the Anne Barge 'Berkeley' gown on the map when her iconic character, Olivia Pope, tied the knot on Scandal's 100th episode. Since then, the Berkeley dress has become one of the most sought-after Anne Barge designs as brides seek to channel Olivia Pope's classic elegance for their own wedding day look. The following year, Meghan Markle's Suits character, Rachel Zane walked down the aisle in the Anne Barge 'Versailles' gown on the series season finale episode, also heightening the gown's popularity.

Famous Anne Barge Brides

Along with several high-profile television weddings, Anne Barge has been worn by many real celebrity brides, including custom designs worn by Leah Pipes, Johanna Braddy, Laura Benanti, and more. The designer is also a popular pick for red carpet events with celebrities like Yvonne Orji, Taraji P. Henson, Amber Riley, and Kristen Cavallari.

Fun Facts About Anne Barge

Anne Barge Clegg's interest in weddings first sparked as a young girl attending ceremonies with her mother, who worked as a concert pianist. She became inspired to start sketching gowns, and the rest is history. While brides can always count on her commitment to classic style, we're excited to see how her timeless aesthetic translates to Anne Barge wedding dresses in 2022.
