If you're wondering just how compatible you are with your S.O., perhaps you'd like to turn to the stars for answers. Whether you're a Zodiac expert or a novice when it comes to the cosmos, you can learn a lot about yourself from astrology—especially when it comes to your romantic relationships. As self-proclaimed Zodiac obsessors, we believe you can tie astrology into every aspect of your wedding, from what you register for to where you swap "I dos." But, to take it a step farther, we wanted to learn about the most compatible zodiac signs for relationships. After all, aren't you curious to know how compatible you and your partner are?
Meet the Expert: To understand the most compatible zodiac sign relationships, we tapped astrologer Stephanie Campos-Powell, founder of Leona Moon Astrology. She began her astrological career in 2013 when she launched a horoscope column through her local newspaper. The former Head of Content for Horscope.com, her zodiac expertise has also appeared in a variety of online publications too. (And, for curious minds, she's a Leo.)

Your Zodiac Sign, Explained
Before we dive into the most compatible signs of the zodiac, it's important to know what your sign is and how it can affect your personality. "In astrology, someone's sun sign, or zodiac sign, represents their identity, qualities they are developing during this lifetime, and personality traits," Campos-Powell tells us. "It's important to note that astrology is much deeper than simply analyzing a person's sun sign and there may be many reasons a person doesn't resonate with their zodiac sign. We must consider the entire birth chart to accurately get a read on an individual's astrological blueprint." (Reader tip: Your birth chart—or natal chart—is a diagram that shows the positions of the sun, moon, planets, and other astrological aspects, along with their angles, at the time of your birth. This indicates your sun sign, along with your moon sign, rising sign, and other planetary placements.)
You can certainly do a deep dive into your placement chart if you'd like. In fact, this will give you a deeper understanding of your love compatibility. But for our purposes, you just need to know your sun sign—and below, we break down each sign with their respective dates.
Are Some Zodiac Signs More Compatible Than Others?
Unsurprisingly, the stars indicate that some astrological love matches are stronger than others. "There are signs that are going to have a more seamless romantic connection that will feel more natural and may take less work," Campos-Powell explains, noting that the element your sign falls into (water, air, earth or fire) can have an impact as well. "Generally speaking, air signs and fire signs blend nicely together," she says. "They both typically possess an outgoing, fun-loving nature that has them eager to try anything once. Earth signs and water signs generally require more stability and can be more introverted by nature."
Of course, the explanation doesn't stop there. You can look deeper beyond your sun sign into two specific planetary placements for even more guidance. "When we're looking for romantic or sexual compatibility, it's important to consider Venus, our love language, and Mars, the planet of sex and action," she adds. "These two planets in our birth chart describe the type of people we are attracted to and why. When two people have alignment between these planets, sparks can surely fly."
But, if you find that you and your partner aren't "traditionally" compatible, there's no need to panic. "I don't think there is such a thing as bad compatibility," Campos-Powell adds. "In our birth charts, we all arrive with different purposes and seek a variety of experiences. Astrology is also very complex, there are a few other methods of looking for compatibility between two people. There is no one version of love or the perfect partner, so it's important that people remember we are here to experience our own unique love story and relationships."
The Most Compatible Zodiac Signs for Relationships
Now that you're a budding astrology pro, it's time to see how your love life matches up. Find your sun sign below to see which zodiac signs are great partners for you in the romance department.
Aries (March 21-April 19)
As the first sign of the Zodiac, Aries are natural-born leaders that are bold and easily excitable, so you need a partner that'll level up to your energy. "Aries needs spontaneity in their love life," Campos-Powell explains. "They'd find that zest for life with a witty Gemini, fun-loving Leo, social Libra or adventure-seeking Sagittarius"
Taurus (April 20-May 20)
If you're a Taurus, it'll come as no surprise to you that finding a good match is all about stability. "Taurus are creatures of habit and thrive in predictable and stable environments," she says. "This zodiac sign would appreciate a homebody Cancer, analytical Virgo, or dedicated Capricorn."
Gemini (May 21-June 20)
Represented by the twins, Gemini signs are social butterflies—so you need a partner that'll compliment your bubbly personality. "Gemini isn't interested in being tied down emotionally or mentally," we're told. "They need someone who can stimulate their mind as much as their wildest whims. Geminis pair well with philosophical Sagittarius, dual-minded Libra, or never-afraid-to-push-the-boundaries Aquarius."
Cancer (June 21-July 22)
"Cancers are sensitive and nostalgic," Campos-Powell says of the fourth zodiac sign. "They're not interested in banter or mental gymnastics. Cancers would appreciate a reliable Taurus, detail-oriented and thoughtful Virgo, or an empathetic Pisces."
Leo (July 23-August 22)
If you're a Leo, you're probably well aware that you need a romantic love match who understands your larger-than-life personality. "Leos need to be the center of attention and daily compliments go a long way," she says. "They'd appreciate an aesthetically minded Libra, bold and confident Aries, or unique Aquarius."
Virgo (August 23-September 22)
Make no mistake, Virgo: Your ideal soulmate is someone who will enable your meticulous way of approaching life. "Virgo is the planner of the zodiac," she explains. "They need stability and someone who appreciates their attention to detail. Virgo would enjoy a stable Taurus, the depth of a Scorpio, or a Capricorn's longsightedness toward their shared goals as a couple."
Libra (September 23-October 22)
"Libras require a balance of intellect and superficiality," Campos-Powell shares. "They love a good cliché love story, but also seek depth. They'd enjoy the witty banter of a Gemini, the progressive mind of an Aquarius, and the passionate nature of an Aries."
Scorpio (October 23-November 21)
As a Scorpio, you probably guard your heart when it comes to romantic relationships. That means you need a partner that'll encourage you to open up and allow yourself to fall in love. "Scorpio struggles with trust, but once they find someone they can rely on, this is a bond that never breaks. Scorpio appreciates Taurus' honesty, the sentimentality of Cancer, and the determination of a Capricorn."
Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)
"Sagittarius is a fun-loving sign that seeks adventure," Campos-Powell says, noting that Sags' aren't known for settling down. "They get bored easily and need constant stimulation. This zodiac sign would thrive with a brainiac Gemini, out-of-the-box Aquarius, or spontaneous Aries."
Capricorn (December 22-January 19)
You like to be the best, Cap, which means your love match will reach your high expectations. "Capricorns' biggest turn-on is ambition," she says. "They need a sign that's as hard-working as they are. They'd respect a detail-oriented Virgo with a plan, financially stable Taurus, or an ambitious Scorpio."
Aquarius (January 20-February 18)
"Aquarius is quirky and always pushing the status quo," she says. "They'd love an untamed Aries, theatrical and authentic Leo, or an independent Aquarius."
Pisces (February 19-March 20)
Last—but certainly not least—is Pisces. As the final sign of the zodiac, you need a love match that'll meet your emotional depth. "Pisces seeks to forge soul bonds with others and to merge with their partner," Campos-Powell concludes. "They'd appreciate an emotionally available Cancer, the intensity of a Scorpio, or another Pisces to discuss the mysteries of life and their soul's desires."
