We spoke with Tina Ricketts, a Boise, Idaho, wedding photographer, who gave us pointers on where to propose in Idaho. Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve in Arco, ID

This surreal landscape of ancient lava flows and cinder cones is an amazing spot for adventure-loving couples. A proposal at the top of Inferno Cone or in one of the fascinating lava tube caves offers a unique and otherworldly setting, according to Ricketts. It provides a picturesque backdrop for an intimate moment, especially if you pop the question at sunset.

Shoshone Falls in Twin Falls, ID

Ricketts suggests Shoshone Falls, a breathtaking 212-foot waterfall known as the "Niagara of the West." The roaring water creates a dramatic scene for a proposal, especially during spring when the falls are at their most powerful. Consider proposing during the annual light show in May when the falls are lit with vibrant colors.

Sawtooth National Forest in Stanley, ID

With its rugged mountains, gorgeous lakes and vast wilderness, Ricketts recommends Sawtooth National Forest for a secluded and adventurous proposal. Get down on one knee during a hike along one of the forest's scenic trails or by an alpine lake surrounded by towering peaks.

Coeur d'Alene Lake in Coeur d'Alene, ID

Thanks to its crystal-clear waters and picture-perfect surroundings, this stunning lake in Northern Idaho is a favorite spot for proposals. Ricketts recommends this location for couples who appreciate a classic and romantic lakeside setting. Propose on a private boat ride, at a secluded beach or during a hike (quite a few trails offer panoramic views of the lake).

Boise Foothills in Boise, ID

The rolling hills surrounding Boise provide a mix of hiking trails and scenic overlooks, which is great for a more private proposal outdoors. With expansive views of the city below and the mountains in the distance, the foothills are especially beautiful during golden hour—which your photographer will love.

Shore Lodge in McCall, ID

Located on the shores of Payette Lake, Shore Lodge offers luxurious accommodations and fantastic lake views. Ricketts recommends proposing on the lodge's lake deck or beach, or at the nearby Ponderosa State Park or Jug Mountain Ranch. This peaceful location is a great place to propose in Idaho if you'd like to pair an outdoorsy excursion with a comfortable stay.

Bald Mountain in Sun Valley, ID

For couples who enjoy skiing or hiking, Bald Mountain in Sun Valley offers incredible views of the surrounding mountain ranges. A proposal at the summit (which is accessible via gondola) provides a breathtaking setting. In the winter, propose with snow-capped peaks as the backdrop, while in summer, the lush greenery is just as magical.

Redfish Lake in Stanley, ID
