Men Will Check Their Phones Way More Often Than Women at Your Wedding
It's no secret that many couples are opting for unplugged weddings, or at least an unplugged ceremony, to keep technology at bay during the most memorable moments of the day. But no matter how many subtle reminders you give your guests, some individuals just can't help themselves—especially the guys.
In its recent smartphone usage study, Decluttr surveyed 1,000 adults to see how often men and women check their devices, and the results revealed some interesting findings. Apparently, men are way more likely than women to look at their phones during a wedding. Eighty percent of men and only 20 percent of women admit to checking their phones during the ceremony and reception. Let's hope they're at least posting a photo using the couple's wedding hashtag, not working, browsing a dating app or checking the score of a game. (As tempting as using your phone may be, this etiquette tip goes for everyone: If there isn't a cell phone policy indicated, be respectful and stow your phone for the ceremony and use it sparingly during the reception.)
Similar results ring true on date night too, with 67 percent of men eyeing their phones while on a date, compared with 13 percent of women. It looks like candlelight, cocktails and good company can't quite match the allure of a phone screen.
The study also reveals a lot more than where men and women use their phones. When asked what they'd consider giving up instead of parting with their devices, men were twice as hesitant as women to give up sex in order to use their phones, but almost four times more likely than women to give up buying new clothes.
