What Is the Showgirl Era?
If you aren't chronically online and feverishly counting down the days until Taylor Swift's new album drops, allow us to give you a crash course in the showgirl era. Swift announced the project during her podcast debut on Travis Kelce's show, New Heights. The episode, which premiered on August 13, 2025, broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the most concurrent podcast viewers on YouTube, as it had 1.3 million people watching live when it aired. (It was, of course, an extraordinary nod to her lucky number 13.)
During the episode, she revealed that she wrote her latest album during her record-breaking run on the Eras Tour, which inspired the title and the aesthetic. "This album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant," she said, adding that the aesthetic's bright orange color "feels kind of energetically how my life has felt." As for the actual sound, she explained that's a sharp departure from her previous album. "It's a lot more like fun pop, like excitement," she added. "I think it's a complete 180 from a lot of the songs on 'Tortured Poets' for sure."
Visually, it's her flashiest era yet. In the subsequent rollout of The Life of a Showgirl, Swift has released album art covers that evoke cabaret-like vibes with strong influences from Old Hollywood and Art Deco epochs. It's theatrical, it's dazzling, and it's oh-so glamorous. In our eyes, it's the perfect formula to inspire a new wave of wedding trends.
A Swifitie's Prediction on How The Life of a Showgirl May Influence Weddings
As a lifelong Swifite (who also happens to be The Knot's News Editor), I've witnessed Swift's impact on the wedding industry firsthand countless times. I've heard her hit singles become popular first dance songs, I've watched her eras inspire wedding aesthetics, and I've even seen her own engagement ring spike interest in vintage diamonds. Now that she's engaged herself, conversations about Taylor Swift and weddings have become even more prevalent than ever before. As a result, The Knot editors are already predicting that The Life of a Showgirl will inspire countless trends in the coming year.
Perhaps the most likely iteration will be through an increased investment in guest entertainment and interactive reception activities. After all, what better way to embrace your showgirl era than by having literal showgirls at your nuptials? Amid the release of TLOASG, prepare to see an influx of live entertainers at wedding receptions, from dancers and singers to champagne servers. Visually, this Taylor Swift era may inspire color palettes with rich, bold hues (think: crimson reds, juicy oranges, lustrous metallics) and jewel accents galore. And, as for the fashion, we'd be remiss not to predict that dazzling, lavish headpieces could very well have a moment. That's showbiz, baby.
