The Best Time of The Year to Propose in Maine

While you should always choose when to propose based on what timeline feels right for you and your partner, there are a few times of year that Maine is especially primed for an amazing engagement. Conner suggests that summer and fall are the best months to capture Maine at its peak. She adds, "If you are trying to keep the crowds away, autumn and spring."

The Best Places to Propose in Maine

If you are looking for the best places to propose in Maine, read ahead for a list of some beautiful spots to have that special moment.

Cadillac Mountain

If you want to propose in the great outdoors, make your way to Maine's acclaimed national park. "I feel like the most impressive and stunning location you could propose in Maine is at the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park," shares Conner. "Especially at sunrise as it is the first place in the U.S. to see the sun!"

Acadia National Park

Want to find another incredible spot within the national park to propose? "Acadia as a whole has so many beautiful and unique backdrops it is hard not to find an impressive location [like] Thunder Hole, Otter Cliffs or Jordan Pond," shares Conner.

Terramore Outdoor Resort

Located in Bar Harbour, known as the "gateway" to Acadia National Park, Terramore Outdoor Resort is a glamping hotel that provides visitors an elevated experience in the woods. We think it would be so romantic to pop the question here on the porch of your tent after a day of adventuring.

Nonantum Resort

Nonantum Resort is a gorgeous nautical escape along the coast of Maine complete with well-appointed rooms, award-winning dining and an on-site marina. Complete a weekender at this retreat by getting down on one knee as the sun sets over the water. It's also a very popular wedding venue if you plan to return and tie the knot there, too.

The Inn on Peaks Island

Take a 15 minute boat ride from Portland to Peak's Island, a quaint town with idyllic scenery. Here you can stay at the cottage-style rooms of The Inn on Peaks Island and pop the big question.

Diamond's Edge Restaurant and Marina

On Great Diamond Island, make your way off the boat to the charming Diamond's Edge Restaurant and Marina. This waterfront retreat offers a lovely restaurant where you can propose or even has a market with pre-packed picnic lunches if you want to plan a romantic proposal on the grounds.

Black Point Inn

This landmark beachfront hotel in Scarborough, Maine is a stunning place to propose. Enjoy a romantic retreat at the property before popping the question along the rugged coastline. With only 25 guestrooms on the property, it's a great location for a bit more privacy.

Mountain Star Estates

Head out to Rangeley Lake in Western Maine for a beautiful proposal by the water and autumnal hues. Mountain Star Estates is an event venue with lodging that can allow you to follow the proposal with a festive engagement party.

The Press Hotel

Conner recommends heading to Old Port in Portland for a "more urban feel" to your proposal. Pair your proposal along the marina with a stay at The Press Hotel, a Autograph Collection retreat that offers a modern interior with a storied history as the former headquarters of the Portland Press Herald newspaper.

Samoset Resort

For a luxurious experience, take your fiancé-to-be to the Samoset Resort in Rockport, Maine. Located on 250 acres, this incredible location offers year round outdoor activities, spas and fine dining to enjoy at a waterfront locale.

Portland Head Light

Want a romantic proposal by the ocean? "We have some stunning and plenty of lighthouses worth seeing! The Portland Headlight is iconic and has great views throughout the park with plenty of space to steal away some private moments," says Conner.

The ViewPoint Hotel

"The second and often most photographed lighthouse is in my town York — the Nubble Lighthouse," says Conner. A stay at The ViewPoint Hotel will give you a direct line of sight to this landmark while also offering cool, modern accommodations to celebrate your new engagement.

Migis Lodge

Rent your own lakefront cottage at Migis Lodge for a romantic getaway you and your partner will never forget. Not only can you arrange a private dinner for two on your private patio for that special moment, but the pair of you can enjoy tons of activities at the lodge throughout your stay.

Head to House Island with your partner for an island camping escape on Fortland. Stay in a yurt or elevated tent for an incredibly romantic time together on a private island.

Monhegan Island

"For some more far-out locations, Mohegan Island is a small, quiet island that is far off the coast of Maine," offers Conner. "It has a lighthouse, a shipwreck and a beautiful artist community. The cliffs there are stunning, too."
