An Enneagram 7 is the life of the party, an adventure seeker. And with that contagious zest for life, those who count themselves as this personality type's perfect matches (according to Enneagram 7 compatibility, that is), are lucky indeed.

Many use the Enneagram system, a popular typology with nine different personality types, to better understand their own or their partner's strengths, motivations and core needs—and how to best navigate their intimate relationships and find lasting, fulfilling love. (If you still don't know what your Enneagram is, Truity's free Enneagram test is one of the most popular in the US and is even psychologist-reviewed. You can take it here.)

Here's what you need to know about Enneagram 7 compatibility and what they look for in love, in life and in the bedroom.

In this article:

Enneagram 7 Traits & Personality

Most Enneagram 7s are true extroverts. They tend to have large, vibrant personalities and an optimistic view of life. Thriving in exciting atmospheres and with an aversion to boredom and the mundane, 7s are usually down to do anything and everything as long as it doesn't involve sitting still for too long.

Known as "The Enthusiasts" of the Enneagram system, these folks love adventure and are often thinking about their next one—which can at times prevent them from being fully present. And because they have such a love for social events and fun, they may tend to tend to overcommit which can lead them to burnout or flakiness. They also have an aversion to conflict, choosing to avoid it whenever possible and becoming quite uncomfortable when faced with tension. They much prefer to sidestep things and proceed as normal (even when things aren't). But when you need a pick-me-up or a little spice in your life, an Enneagram 7 is who you call first.

Enneagram 7 Communication Style

Communication isn't necessarily an Enneagram Type 7's strong suit. Their upbeat and positive demeanor makes them approachable and social, but they can often seem distracted or as if they don't take things very seriously.

Type 7s are also known for avoiding tough topics and dancing around conflict. When communicating with an Enneagram 7 it's best to make sure they're in a distraction-free space where they can focus and speak freely to make meaningful conversation. They may make light of situations you deem more serious—but it isn't because they don't care; it's because they skew more positive than negative in general.

How Enneagram 7 Is in a Relationship

Most Enneagram 7s love romance and take on the role of being the fun, easygoing partner. Because of their sense of adventure and excitement for the future, they may struggle to commit at first, needing to gently ease into a romantic relationship

Enneagram 7s are great at getting their partners to embrace the spontaneous side of life, adding balance to relationships where one partner might need a little encouragement to get out of their comfort zone. Open communication is key, though, to avoid burn or not having one's solitary needs met. Typically though, true Type 7s recognize and respect the need for space and individual freedom.

Enneagram 7 in the Bedroom

A Type 7's zest for life remains the same, if not more fervent, in the bedroom. Giving their partner pleasure gives them pleasure, and they like to try new things and don't shy away from communicating their wants and needs.

They don't like keeping things routine and instead prefer changing things up from time to time. Predictability isn't their friend. And while they enjoy almost all physical aspects of intimacy, they may shy away from sharing thoughts or feelings while the action is happening — they prefer laughs, excitement and play over emotional testimonies of affection and love.

The Most Compatible Enneagrams for Type 7

The ability of a Type 7 to go with the flow and embrace social settings makes them ideal partners for those who are like-minded. Of course, this doesn't mean you can't have a great relationship outside of these pairings. The matches below are just popularly thought to be compatible due to the traits typically associated with the Enneagram types.

Enneagram 7 and Enneagram 8

When 7s and 8s get together, magic can happen. There's an unspoken understanding of one another's desire for independence but also their need for social interaction and fun. Type 8s, also known as "The Challengers," are more assertive and tend to have stronger personalities than 7s—but it only makes their relationship more balanced since at times, when their respective Type 7 needs grounding—but never stifling.

Enneagram 7 and Enneagram 2

The supportive and nurturing nature of Enneagram 2s, "The Helpers," provides stability and a soft space to land for a Type 7. Both enjoy social connections and being around other people, while a Type 2 also brings the sense of calmness that a Type 7 may need.

Enneagram 7 and Enneagram 3

Because Type 7s and Type 3s both thrive in fast-paced and exciting environments, a match between The Enthusiast and The Achiever makes a lot of sense. With Type 7's adventurous nature and Type 3's energetic and charismatic personality, a romantic relationship between the two will be filled with fun and authenticity.
