How We Forecast The Knot 2027 Wedding Trends

A lot went into creating The Knot 2027 Wedding Trends Report. Our editorial expertise and intuition certainly played a role in forming our predictions, and our team's ambition for 2027 was to take a quantitative approach to further validate and contextualize our trends.

To start, The Knot Editors reviewed dozens of trending wedding concepts that we believed could result in widespread adoption across 2027 weddings.

From there, an added layer to our quantitative approach for trends was to have these predictions validated by a pre-selected group of wedding vendors on The Knot Vendor Marketplace. Dubbed The Knot Trends Vendor Council, these forward-thinking industry experts were consulted, some numerous times, to vet and refine our list:

Lace is no longer limited to bridal gowns and veils. This vintage-style fabric is now dressing up wedding stationery, as well as tablescapes and décor. "Lace nods to vintage beauty and antique design, yet it feels modern at the same time," says planner Danielle Elder of Classic Events. In some cases, it's being repurposed with meaning. "I recently had a wedding where the bride made her own veil from her grandmother's lace tablecloth," says photographer Lexsey Lanzotti of Zotti & Co. "It was stunning."

Let's vacation. To-be-weds are now exploring ways to bring the Amalfi Coast to their weddings back home. Think spritz bars for cocktail hour, cabana stripes across patio furniture, lemon-embellished tablescapes and stationery, and textiles steeped in sun-dappled marigolds and Mediterranean blues. "Couples planning multi-day experiences want to incorporate a fun poolside or oceanfront experience for their guests," says designer and planner Jason Rhee of Rheefined Company. "I also think with Italy being a trendy destination, it's becoming an inspiration piece for many couples." Prego.

Fun fact: Swans mate for life; Plus, when courtship occurs between pairs, they briefly form a heart as part of their "bow." It's no surprise that couples are dreaming in Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, embellishing their weddings with swan motifs and other balletcore elements (think ribbons, loose bows, textured draping, and crystal). How coquette for Odette.

Aspiring coastal grandmothers: This one's for you. The Nancy Meyers aesthetic is one that is frequently name-dropped across our teams, and The Knot Editors have noticed Real Wedding submissions lately entirely involving hydrangea, moss, or wisteria installations. Arguably more impactful, depending on the flower type, single floral designs are trending up. "The look is tailored, organic, and neat, but messy and almost like a still-life painting," says Elder. "Antique hydrangea is having a huge comeback."

Whimsical Florals

A response to our society's current appetite for dopamine, whimsy is touching everything from wedding fashion to bouquets. The poppy–yes, that floral known for its rumpled, ornamental petals–is trending up for this very reason, as are other blooms that present a similar vibe.

We still appreciate gold (Au), but its cooler-tone friend on the Periodic Table of Elements, AKA silver (Ag), is making a fresh comeback. The sterling transition metal is influencing wedding accessories, stationery, dinnerware and flatware. "The silver accents we've seen to date feel like a fun meshing of vintage charm and modern elegance," says Micaela Erickson, Director of Marketing at Vesper, citing examples like "vintage silver trays holding lighters, cigarettes, and other vices for guests to indulge in, eclectic mirrors with the couple's monogram, and almost futuristic silver floral arrangements."

The Arts as Inspiration

Already a point of inspiration, the arts, spanning photography, painting, music, sculpture and more, have influenced the creative direction for weddings and other milestones. "I'm seeing the arts pop up in engagement shoots. Couples are also leaning toward art museums and libraries, and including stained glass pieces, particularly, in their welcome signage," says Lanzotti.

Hyper-personalization is now making its way to types of venues. Within the last year, The Knot Editors and Vendor Council have seen weddings hosted at beach clubs, members clubs, townhomes, spas, and even sports arenas (ahem, we're looking at you, Taylor and Travis). "I think people are really starting to venture out and do things their own way," says Lanzotti.

A logo and a love story: A tale as old as time. Iconography is now easily identifiable from the moment a guest receives a save-the-date and opens up the couple's wedding website. Custom crests, bespoke illustrations, and personalized pieces of a branding puzzle are in demand. "We like to say it's akin to a leitmotif in an opera or a piece of music. It's a consistent thread that helps tell the story through melodies rather than words," says Elder.

Meet the wedding prop or backdrop. Creative types are now requesting unexpected texture for their backdrops, design layouts, and more. "This is a fun opportunity for couples to showcase their taste, creativity, and interests," says Erickson. "It'll result in exciting, playful photo moments for couples and guests, and subvert more traditional wedding expectations."

The age of hospitality certainly shows through this new trend. Lately, couples want their guests to feel "at home" (so to speak), so they're creating a wedding environment that reflects their residential preferences. Table lamps, menu tassels, and even coffee table guest books at weddings are a reflection of a focus on luxury interiors and inviting spaces, allowing guests to experience respite.

Wedding favors are more than just merch, they're a full-blown pop-up experience—something guests can enjoy in the moment and take home to savor. "Pop-ups, interactive food or unconventional venues—where taking guests on a journey with you—is a focus," says Carly Katz-Hackman, Partner at Pinch Food Design.

Roaming apéritif options, such as caviar service and martini sidecars, are already delighting guests. Interactive food and beverage options are giving couples permission to go on, and play with their food. "We're planning a secret pickle bar in the vault of the wedding venue," Katz says of a Pinch wedding. "Think pickleback shots, pickled onion martinis, plus all the crunchy goodness you can imagine. Who needs bar nuts when you can have pickles?"

According to The Knot research, 60% of couples find it important to incorporate ethnicity/religion/culture into their weddings. This is translating in 2027 to menus that are deeply personal and meaningful. "We've definitely seen a ton of requests to infuse the couple's culture into their wedding menu to show not only where they come from as individuals, but how they plan to move forward as a couple," says Katz. "Whether it's an Indian Station for him, plus a Maryland station for her, and a New York station for them; or a full Chinese banquet dinner, plus challah made by the mother of the bride… We're seeing worlds collide in the best way."

Couples clearly want to feel like the main character, and they're treating their photography as though they're starring in a Wes Anderson movie. "The photo requests that I'm seeing most right now are for images to feel emotional," says Lanzotti. "Instead of standard, posed photos, couples want it to feel dreamy, romantic, artsy… People are really into creative composition lately."

Couples are getting supremely creative about their paper products, from save-the-dates to the escort cards. Inspiration ranges from custom illustrations and handwritten lettering to pop-up designs on menus and wedding ceremony program fans. "There's a definite shift towards hyper-curation; for both documentation and immortalization," says Erickson. "The desire to make aesthetics bold, unique, and highly tailored has never been stronger."

Peace is the premium that couples are willing to pay for when it comes to their honeymoons. The tougher-to-access resorts and destinations are drumming up interest among to-be-weds. That's because there's a belief in discretion and privacy, contrary to today's "always-on" mindset. Private villa resorts and ultra-luxury hotels offer a scenic escape from crowds, especially in beloved romantic hotspots like Santorini, the Amalfi Coast, and Ibiza. Alternatively, the lesser-known islands across the Mediterranean that require an extra ferry ride or two are worth the journey. Floating hotels are yet another choice as we've seen luxury brands design entire itineraries and experiences on their ships.
