The Photos You Definitely Don't Need on Your Wedding Day
If your wedding day is coming up, you probably feel like you want your photographer to capture every, single, little moment. And while that's definitely true to some extent—there are tons of must-have wedding photos you'll want in your album—there are also plenty you don't need. Why waste precious time on your wedding day or space in your future wedding album if you don't have to? Below, find the photos we don't think you need on your wedding day.
Too Many Family Photo Combinations
Three words: consolidate, consolidate, consolidate. It's not important to capture every family photo sequence your mother can dream up. Are you really going to need—or even want—10 different photo combinations of your aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins and twice-removed family members whose names you can never remember? Simply get everyone together for a few great ones and call it a day—you'll make your mom happy and avoid the unnecessary snaps.
Your Guests Having Fun
Tell your guests to download The Guest app and you'll have thousands of photos flooding in all weekend—plus, they'll likely be posting on Instagram using your amazing hashtag and taking lots of prop-adorned pictures in your photo booth too. With several ways to capture the fun themselves all night, it's not totally necessary for your photographer to snap tons of pictures of your guests chatting, smiling or getting down on the dance floor.
Trash the Dress
While this can be cathartic and fun for some brides, it's really more of a trend than a mainstay. You might love the thought of these styled, silly photos now, but in 20 years, they'll likely be the last thing you'll care about flipping through your wedding album.
Non-Photogenic Food
You might love the taste of the chicken skewers at your cocktail hour, but maybe it's time to accept that they're not the most photogenic culinary creation. Don't get us wrong: Food's definitely worth photographing if it's pretty to look at, displayed in a creative way or brings to light an interesting element or pairing. And of course, we're all for serving up whatever you want at your wedding. But skip the snaps if it's not something that photographs particularly well.
Anything You're Uncomfortable With
No, you don't have to take a cheesy jumping shot or one of you lying in the grass with your spouse just because your photographer tells you to. Feel free to skip anything that doesn't fit your vision or makes you feel uncomfortable in any way. Better yet, do lots of research on your wedding photographer so you're familiar with their particular style, and know how much they like to push the envelope in their portraiture.
