Your wedding planner has one goal: to help you pull off a beautiful and personal wedding you'll never forget. Simple, right? Only if you do your part. Yes, you hired them, which means they work for you—but you still have a role to play in making their job easier and the process smooth and enjoyable for both of you. Here are a few things you might be doing to drive your planner crazy—without realizing it.

1. Micromanaging Them

This is your day and you want everything to be just so—we get it— but there comes a point when you need to take a deep breath, trust your planner and let go. You hired them for a reason, so don't be a helicopter bride or groom (you know, calling them every day to check in, or sending them 15 emails a day with a laundry list of requests). Simply put: Don't nag, and let them work their magic.

2. Being Way Too Chill or Indecisive

On the other end of the spectrum, don't ghost your planner. Return their calls and emails, make yourself as present and available, and don't forget they actually want you to have opinions. They can't do their job without something to go on. Don't be one of those couples who can't (or doesn't care about) make decisions without them.

3. Hiring Them for a Service They Don't Provide

Before hiring a pro, do your homework to make sure you understand exactly what they do. Are they a stylist, day-of consultant, big-picture designer or full-service planner? (Yes, these are all different things.) Don't hire someone assuming their services include event production when their expertise might only be inspiration, vision and design.

4. Treating Them Like a Personal Assistant

While they're your right hand in all things wedding related, don't expect them to book dentist appointments, pick up your dry cleaning and order your Ubers. Also, your planner isn't a reception babysitter—they can't do their job if they're keeping an eye on little ones all night long.

5. Not Coming to Them With Inspiration

Remember when we said do research to find the right planning service? Don't forget to do the same with wedding inspiration. Peruse Instagram, Pinterest, real wedding photos, wedding magazines and take our style quiz to narrow down your vision. You don't have to know what you want to a T, but your planner's job becomes really difficult when you come to the table saying, "I have no idea what I like." (Hint: It can help to start by figuring out what you don't like.)

6. Having Unrealistic Expectations for Your Budget

First of all, don't come to a planner without at least a rough budget (this should be one of the first details you prioritize). Once you have a dollar amount in mind, it's important to be realistic with your inspiration. A towering wall of orchids might look breathtaking on Instagram, but if you're not prioritizing thousands of dollars on flowers, it's not the most realistic expectation.

7. Not Keeping an Open Mind

If all you say is "no" to your planner's ideas and suggestions, you shouldn't have hired them in the first place. Definitely come to them with opinions, but it's important to keep an open mind. Trusting your planner is the name of game. They know what they're doing, so why not say "yes" once in a while?
