Baby's breath is a beautiful flower with small blooms and is great for enhancing wedding decor. There are so many ways baby's breath can be used in your wedding during the ceremony and reception. The best thing about this flower is that it is budget-friendly, which means you can get more of it for less to help with your decorating needs. We spoke with florists Michelle Morgan of Kuhn Flowers and Alison Fleck, Founder of Bloom Culture, about baby's breath and how it can be used in wedding festivities.

What Is Baby's Breath?

Baby's Breath, also known as Gypsophila, is a budget-friendly flower that can make a great addition to wedding decor. The flowering plant is identifiable by its delicate white blossoms which grow in bushy groupings.

What Does Baby's Breath Symbolize?

Like many flowers, there are some traditional wedding flower meanings associated with baby's breath. Baby's breath symbolizes "innocence, purity and everlasting love," says Morgan.

How Long Does Baby's Breath Last?

The amount of time baby's breath can last depends on how it is cared for. Morgan notes that it usually can last between 10-14 days if it is properly tended to and watered.

When Is Baby's Breath Season?

Baby's breath season is year-round. Fleck notes that baby's breath "has various varieties under the blanket species which is helpful when one variety is off-crop (or done being harvested) as the others can fill in. Many people can't spot the difference in the varieties of arrangements."

Is Baby's Breath Expensive?

Are you wondering about the average cost of wedding flowers, especially baby's breath? Baby's breath is one of the more affordable flowers. Morgan says that a bunch of baby's breath typically costs between $6 to $8.95. She mentions that the wholesale cost "depends upon the grower and the variety purchased. There are also several sizes of blooms available from Million Star to Overtime." Additionally, "the classic white variety is more affordable than the tinted/dyed/or "painted" varieties that allow it to come in various popular colors," adds Fleck.

How to Incorporate Baby's Breath in Your Wedding

Although Baby's Breath is commonly used as a filler flower, "some recent trends saw the rise in all baby's breath bouquets and arrangements," explains Fleck. In addition to bouquets and arrangements, Baby's Breath can be used "to create beautiful boutonnieres, corsages, centerpieces, garlands. More recently, floating clouds have been made to hover about tables and dance floors."
