There always seems to be someone in the office celebrating their upcoming nuptials. If your colleague is getting married and you want to know the proper wedding gift etiquette, we've got you covered with some advice on what's appropriate and some great suggestions for a wedding gift for a coworker, whether they're your boss, your direct report or your work bestie.

There are a few factors to take into consideration before you begin shopping, starting with whether or not you're invited to the wedding. If you're close enough to this person—inside or outside of the office—to have your presence requested on their special day, you should definitely buy them a wedding present. You should always consult the couple's wedding registry first and go from there. (If you think your coworker is registered with The Knot, you can search for their wish list here.)

As for how much to spend on a wedding gift, something that falls between $50 and $100 is usually a good bet—though definitely consider the nature of your relationship to get a better idea of where your present should fall on that spectrum. If there are multiple folks from your workplace team invited to the affair, you might choose to split the cost of a pricier item amongst yourselves, especially if you're shopping from the couple's wedding registry and there aren't many items left in your budget.

You're under no obligation to give a gift if you weren't asked to attend the nuptials, but if you're still interested in gifting your coworker a little something to celebrate their "I do"s, a small keepsake sends the right message (sweet, but not over-the-top). We've provided plenty of appropriately lower-priced wedding gift ideas (starting at $15) that fall into this category. And—if you're newer to the company or you don't know the betrothed party all that well—you really can't go wrong with a gift card. If you're ready to get shopping, keep reading for a few of our favorite wedding gifts for work colleagues.
