If you can't get by without a daily cup of Joe, why not make it part of your wedding day? A coffee cart for a wedding is becoming one of the hottest wedding drink trends, serving up everything from rich espresso shots and foamy lattes to specialty syrups, teas and even espresso martinis. Whether you're fueling up your wedding party before the ceremony, serving signature lattes during cocktail hour or keeping the dance floor alive with a late-night caffeine kick, a wedding coffee cart adds a cozy, personalized touch. Plus, with chic setups, custom menus and baristas who know their craft, they're as aesthetic as they are delicious.

Here are a few ideas for incorporating them into your wedding, along with standout vendors (you can find even more on The Knot Vendor Marketplace) brewing up serious "I love you a latte" vibes.

Coffee Cart Tips: Timing | Cost | How to Hire| Who to Hire

When and Where to Use a Coffee Cart for Your Wedding

Think of a coffee cart at a wedding as a little pick-me-up wherever you (or your guests) need it most. Set one up while you're getting ready with your wedding party to keep everyone caffeinated and hyped during hair and makeup, or have one to greet guests as they arrive for the ceremony so they can sip on lattes and tea while they mingle. It's a thoughtful way to start the celebration—especially for a morning wedding or cooler-weather weddings.

During cocktail hour or the reception, a coffee cart easily transitions from morning staple to evening showstopper. Keep things cozy with mochas and hot chocolate for non-drinkers. Or serve espresso martinis alongside the bar or signature wedding cocktails infused with caffeine and named after you and your partner. Keep in mind that not all coffee carts have a liquor license. "A lot of people just bring their straight shot of espresso from us to the bar," says Rachel Cipollone of Shio Coffee in the Los Angeles area. "If you can figure out some sort of simple handoff or an espresso martini station where guests can finish it off themselves, that's a big plus."

It's also important to time the coffee cart correctly, she adds. "We've been to a few weddings where there are toasts and other happenings the whole first hour we are booked, so nobody is coming to get coffee," she explains. "If it's a longer wedding, wait until after all that."

That might mean pulling out the coffee cart later on as a fun wedding reception activity. "A coffee cart works beautifully during dessert hour and into the end of the evening, after dancing, when guests are winding down, or even as part of a stylish send-off moment," says Chris Weinberg of Chris Weinberg Events in Miami. "We love incorporating them toward the end of the evening or during farewell moments because they support the guest experience," she adds. "After a long day of celebration, your guests appreciate something warm, familiar and delicious before heading home—or before the after-party."

How Much Is a Coffee Cart for Weddings?

The cost of a coffee cart rental for a wedding depends on the level of service, the type of coffee offered and the guest count—but you can generally expect to invest anywhere from $1,000 to $3,500-plus, according to Weinberg. "A simple espresso bar for around 100 guests typically falls on the lower end, while a more crafted experience—with specialty lattes, flavored syrups, iced options, customized cups or branded elements—will land on the higher end," she says. "If the coffee cart takes the place of part of your dessert experience, it becomes a very intentional and meaningful design choice that guests truly enjoy."

Cipollone says that Shio Coffee typically costs between $1,000 and $1,750 for two hours of service, depending on whether the couple wants custom branding or custom recipes (booking for three or four hours usually ends up being too much time, she adds). Their basic package starts at $1,000 for up to 100 guests, which includes espresso-based drinks and two specialty latte flavors. As for a tip? "We personally don't typically leave a tip jar out at weddings, so a tip is greatly appreciated," she says. "And $100–$150 is great to split between two baristas, but we're really grateful for anything."

Weinberg recommends 18% to 20% of the total service cost, or a set amount per barista if the vendor suggests it, if gratuity isn't included in the contract.
