Choosing an engagement ring is one of the most important and personal choices you'll make in the wedding planning journey—not to mention the one that kicks the journey off. So you may be wondering how and where, to begin. Shopping for engagement rings in Chicago opens up a plethora of options, from storied family-run businesses to diamond suites tucked into Jeweler's Row to modern lab-grown storefronts. Each spot promises a unique experience, but almost all the options on our list offer both ready-to-shop and custom options, so you can work with the jewelers and consultants to find or create a piece that lands squarely in your budget. There are quite literally hundreds of jewelers among the best engagement ring stores in Chicago; here, we've narrowed down the search for you.

Marshall Pierce & Co.

Six generations in, this family-owned jewelry store has been serving Chicagoans since 1896—and its offerings are as classic and storied as its history: Think stunning solitaire diamonds on white gold bands, blinged-out halos around cushion-cut gemstones, three-stone designs and more. Whether you're shopping with your significant other or planning a surprise, Marshall Pierce offers an incredible engagement ring shopping experience; especially if you're going the custom route, we suggest making an appointment (their chic shop is open by appointment only on Mondays, or open for walk-ins Tuesday-Saturday). Psst, they also offer personal shopping appointments—book one to pick out additional jewels to ice yourself for the big day.

Notable Review: "Jerry at Marshall Pierce became our go-to jeweler thanks to an amazing experience working with him for my engagement ring in 2022 and our wedding bands in 2023. Jerry delivered on our vision each time, creating absolutely gorgeous pieces. He is wonderful to work with for such special occasions." –Danielle T., The Knot Marketplace

Dimend SCAASI

No list of where to buy engagement rings in Chicago would be complete without a trip to Jeweler's Row, a two-block stretch tucked beneath the elevated train tracks in the city's famous Loop. Behind rotating doors on unassuming skyrises lie dozens of jewelry stores and suites, our current favorite being Dimend SCAASI. The quarter-century-old shop has a reputation for competitive pricing and working with clients to stay within a budget, so check it out if affordability is a top priority (they also offer a generous 30-day return policy and lifetime warranties). While Dimend SCAASI offers an expansive range of preset engagement rings, trending styles and both lab and mined diamonds, custom is also an option.

Notable Review: "You just know when you find the ONE! I went to lots of jewelers searching for the perfect wedding band and I had a super specific price point and look I was going for. Dimend SCAASI definitely nailed both requirements! I worked with Shannon who really helped me create the exact band that was in my head. They brought it to life and I absolutely love it." –Eliza M., The Knot Marketplace

Our pick for engagement rings with a cool-girl edge—and celebrity stamp of approval—is Dana Rebecca Designs, a female-owned family business on Michigan Avenue. The Dana Rebecca Designs showroom is by appointment only; you can also find her pieces at select Nordstrom locations.

Notable Review: "DRD is my absolute favorite brand to shop for modern fine jewelry! They never cease to amaze me with their fresh yet timeless designs. The quality is also phenomenal. Perusing the site always results in me adding more things to my never-ending wishlist. However, shopping in the showroom is my preferred method. Dana and her team offer exceptional customer service. The showroom, with its amazing decor and view, is an entire vibe." –Nikia J., Google Reviews

Mineralogy

If you have your heart set on a vintage engagement ring—or something Art Deco-inspired, or you simply want a unique engagement ring unlike any you've seen before—Mineralogy is a fantastic place to start. Owner and jeweler Theresa Cowan set up shop more than a decade ago with a passion for natural minerals. Her pieces feature unique gemstone shapes, placements and orientations, and especially unique stones: Cowan works with diamonds of course, but also loves incorporating colored stones like sapphire, turquoise, pink jasper and more. While walk-ins are welcome at the stunning Ravenswood storefront, appointments are highly preferred for engagement ring and wedding band shoppers. (And, psst, you'll fall in love with shop dog Penny Dee.)

Notable Review: "Theresa and her team at Mineralogy were incredibly helpful and accommodating when my fiancé and I moved up our wedding date by a month and needed to get wedding bands—quickly! The Mineralogy website was easy to navigate, and when we walked in to look at the bands before placing our order, Theresa answered all the questions we had. We had such a great experience purchasing our wedding rings that I went back to order my maid of honor's gift from Mineralogy, too!" –Liv M, The Knot Marketplace

In fact, Lester Lampert is our pick if you're looking for the utmost in customization. The in-house artisans are always inventing and improving; they work with clients to select the perfect natural diamond, and use cool CAD CAM technology to showcase the design from all angles. Custom pieces are created right on site—a workshop is housed inside the architecturally beautiful storefront—but note that the shop is open by appointment only.

Notable Review: "My fiancé went to Lester Lampert on a recommendation and walked away with an amazing ring. They took the time to custom design and even added my initials to the underside of the ring. I couldn't love my ring more as it's beautiful but also built with love." –Nora K., The Knot Marketplace
