Spanish Wedding Invitation Etiquette

Solórzeno highlights that wedding invites in Spanish "stand out for their sense of tradition and elegance." There are a few things to pay extra attention to when preparing invitaciones de boda en español—or wedding invitations in Spanish.

Family First and Full Names

Solórzeno says, "it's customary for parents' names to appear at the top of the invitation, reflecting the role and honor of family in the celebration. In addition, invitations usually present first, middle and last names for respect and formality."

Gracious Language

"Phrasing tends to be poetic and courteous," Solórzeno shares. It "often includes expressions like 'tienen el honor de invitarles' to convey the special nature of the event." The sentiment is the same for Spanish thank-you card wording.

Titles and Accents

Solórzeno emphasizes, "Titles such as Sr. (Mr.), Sra. (Mrs.), Srta. (Miss) are frequently used, and it's respectful to include all necessary accent marks in Spanish words and names.".

Touch of Tradition

"References to religious ceremonies, the church or significant cultural rituals are very common, considering that the majority of the population in Latin America is Catholic," notes Solórzeno. With this, it is common to include Bible verses in Spanish in Spanish invitation wording.

Bilingual Touch

Solórzeno says that "for families and friends from different cultures, bilingual wedding invitations in both Spanish and English are often used." Couples can print one side of the invitation in English and the other in Spanish, or print them in one language and ensure each guest gets the appropriate invitation.
