There's plenty of variety among Louisiana's small wedding venues too–from barns in the countryside to glamorous old estates to old to bed and breakfasts and even a vintage movie theater. While the urban character of New Orleans naturally lends itself to having smaller venues–and there certainly are many tiny venues in the city–you can bet there are plenty of small wedding venues around other parts of the state too, including in cities like Baton Rouge and Shreveport.

Wonderland + Sea in New Orleans, Louisiana

Wonderland + Sea is a playful, modern restaurant and event space in Uptown New Orleans. Inside you'll find wood beams, high ceilings, abundant natural light from large windows and a large built in blue-hued bar. The restaurant also has a private courtyard that can be used for small ceremonies or al fresco cocktails. Throughout the night you and your guests will enjoy Wonderland + Sea's elevated fast casual fare including dishes like humanely-raised fried boneless chicken, flash fried bok choy and sweet potato biscuits.

Varsity Theatre in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

For an unexpected small wedding venue, look to Baton Rouge's Varsity Theatre. The theater-turned-event venue has high ceilings, brick walls, wood floors and of course, excellent acoustics. The venue allows outside caterers or you can book one of their partners. For added elements of retro flair the venue can add a disco ball to your small dance floor and even put your names up on the marquee outside the movie theater.

Soulet Muse in New Orleans, Louisiana

Soulet Muse is a petite Magazine Street event venue with maximum charm. The indoor part of the 1850s townhouse features exposed brick, high ceilings and antique touches as well as an event space with a large kitchen island and vintage French doors. There are also three guest rooms on site. The event room also connects to two courtyards–one in front out on Magazine street and a back courtyard that offers peace and privacy as well as a lush plant wall and bistro lights.

North Market Venue in Shreveport, Louisiana

North Market Venue is a former waterhouse and renovated event space two blocks from downtown Shreveport. The interior has a grand ballroom that can fit up to 120 with vintage pine floors, chandeliers, metal beam and garden lights. Super-small celebrations of up to 30 can also take place in the Boutique Room, and the venue also has two getting ready suites and provides planning and floral design services too.

Cypress Grove Wedding Venue / Bridal Cottage / B&B in Eunice, Louisiana

Rustic charm abounds at Cypress Grove Wedding Venue / Bridal Cottage / B&B, a former general store built in 1886 and set in a forested setting in Cajun Prairie County. The inside of Cypress Grove, where many receptions are held, has antique white shiplap walls, wood ceilings and floors and the original general store countertops. Outside, there's an open-air chapel for ceremonies with 14-foot stained glass windows and a working 30-foot bell tower with a restored 19th-century bell. Alternatively, weddings can take place out on the field or on the barn's covered porch surrounded by Cypress trees. The venue also has a getting ready cottage that doubles as a honeymoon suite.

Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights Museum and Showroom in New Orleans, Louisiana

Ever think you'd tie the knot in a lantern workshop? Probably not, but once you get a glimpse of Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights Museum and Showroom you'll see why so many couples choose to do so. The third-generation lantern workshop is decorated with 40-plus handcrafted open-flame copper lanterns lining the brick walls throughout the cozy venue. The French Quarter venue also has a brick courtyard with tropical plants and string lights. What's more: You can even have coppersmiths on site handcrafting lanterns during your event for guests to watch work their magic.

Maison D'Memoire is a sweet Southern bed and breakfast with four lovely century-old cottages and indoor and outdoor space for small events. The indoor event area for receptions is simple yet enchanting, with wood-paneled walls and lots of natural light. Outside, the venue has 30 verdant acres and a private lake that makes for a popular waterfront ceremony site.

The Temple in New Orleans, Louisiana

The Temple is a quirky, colorful artist's residence and event venue that brings loads of personality to small weddings in New Orleans's Bywater neighborhood. The inside of the house has a few different small spaces that you can use for your day, including a honeymoon suite, getting ready room and a ballroom. The ballroom is an ideal spot to host a funky reception surrounded by black and red wallpaper, painted ceilings, patterned rugs and eye-catching light fixtures. Many couples choose to have their ceremony outside, though, on the cobalt blue patterned patio with the yellow house and garden beds as their backdrop.

Ponchatoula 22 Estate in Ponchatoula, Louisiana

For a glamorous small wedding, look to Ponchatoula 22 Estate, a French chateau-inspired venue on a lake in South East Louisiana. Waterfront ceremonies shine out on the estate's manicured grounds, and receptions can take place either outside under a tent, or for parties of 30 or fewer, inside the glamorous house where you'll find gorgeous chandeliers and stunning woodwork. The home features five bedrooms, a kitchen, game room and a pool and 16-person hot tub too.

LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

There are quite a few spaces that can be rented out for celebrations at LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens, but the Orangerie and the Pavilion are certainly favorites for small weddings. The Orangerie is a former citrus tree conservatory with a small 15-person event room and a larger atrium overlooking the gardens that seats up to 100. The Pavilion, which accommodates up to 140, is an open-air venue near a wooded area with exposed beams, twinkle lights and a grand fireplace. The two neighboring venues also offer use of their surrounding lawns.

Sully Mansion in New Orleans, Louisiana

For such a small venue, the Sully Mansion packs a whole lot of beauty into its event spaces. The Garden District Queen-Anne style mansion and boutique inn features stained glass, pine floors and a dramatic staircase, as well as eight rooms for overnight guests. The gem of the property, however, is the courtyard, which has a jasmine-wrapped pergola and towering oak trees, and can be used for both small ceremonies and receptions.
