Introducing Vow Factor by Snif x Professor Perfume

The oh-so-romantic scent, which features top notes of mandarin, green fig and galbanum, actually started as a one-off wedding perfume just for Emelia. "I started a series on my TikTok where I was on the hunt for the perfect wedding fragrance, and of course, being a full-time fragrance junkie, my list of requirements was absolutely outlandish," she tells me. "I found a few solid contenders, but none that really felt like me." Enter Snif, who reached out to Emilia and offered to help her create her own custom wedding scent. "It was originally just going to be one bottle for me, but we had such a blast collaborating on the scent that we couldn't keep it to ourselves."

The genderless perfume is meant to bottle up all the emotions couples feel on their wedding day, with scent memory being a big part of this perfume's equation. "One of my favorite things about fragrance is that it can capture a moment, a memory, a time in your life or an era so perfectly," Emelia tells The Knot. And science backs her up; smell is actually processed in the same area of the brain as your emotions and memories, which is why choosing the right fragrance can be such an important part of your wedding day.

Vow Factor is quintessential for couples looking to have a signature scent on their wedding day, and you're sure to notice how amazing it smells from the very first spray. "You'll get a stemmy, sort of dark-green feeling from the galbanum, and then it'll soften out as the florals start to bloom," Emelia says. "We have more green and citrusy facets from neroli, soft and dewy freshness from rose, and an earthy powderiness from orris."

"When the base settles in, it's a gorgeous blend of dry and deep cedarwood, rich and cozy tonka bean, and a light nuttiness from Ambrette seeds," she says. "Think of every aspect of a fairytale wedding in the woods—that's what this smells like!"

Find your kind of venue

From barns to ballrooms, discover reception venues that feel like you.

Sounds dreamy, right? It gets better. Like the rest of Snif's scents, Vow Factor is vegan, cruelty-free and formulated with industry-clean standards .That means no preservatives, parabens, phthalates or synthetic dyes.

What Exactly *Is* Genderless Perfume?

One thing to know about Snif is that they are industry disruptors. This genderless perfume is designed for brides, grooms or anyone who wants to wear a romantic signature scent for the big day. It's just the right amount of warmth and sweetness for couples who can now wear the same scent, together. "I think a lot of people are still caught up in the idea that cologne is for men and perfume is for women, or feel tied to tradition—like thinking that fougere scents have to be masculine and chypre scents have to be feminine," says Emelia. "We can respect the traditions of fragrance while also recognizing that gender discourse and the world of scent have evolved so much, even in the last decade. The world of scent is so vast and nuanced—it's so much easier to find what you like when you remove the gender-sphered lenses," she tells me. "Wear whatever you think smells good!

Professor Perfume's Top Tips for Applying Vow Factor

Did you know that there are ways to maximize your perfume? Neither did I. Lucky for us, Emelia reveals exactly how to apply your favorite scents.

1. Apply moisturizer first, before your scent. "Choose a complementary or matching moisturizer (or unscented) to match your scent for the day," says Emelia. "Fragrance loves to hold onto well-moisturized and hydrated skin!"

2. Don't wait until right before the ceremony to apply. "Apply the scent first thing in the morning, while you're getting ready, so that you have the whole day to build those scent memories," she tells me. "If you're so inclined, you could also wear it for the rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, or any other pre-wedding events.

3. Maximize your scent cloud. "For the best scent cloud, spritz both wrists (don't tap or rub), your neck or chest, behind both ears, and the back of your neck," Emelia says. "Spray your dress or suit with the fragrance to maximize longevity—you can even spritz your veil to enhance your scent cloud."

4. Keep a travel-sized version handy on the big day. Emelia also suggests having a member of the wedding party keep a travel size of the fragrance in their bag or pocket so you can easily reapply as needed throughout the day.

My Honest Thoughts on Vow Factor

Emelia's description of the scent made it sound heavenly, but now it's time to put it to the test.

Let me start off by saying that the packaging is a solid 10 out of 10. The design is romantic and luxurious, yet playful and modern. As a bride-to-be myself, I can imagine how beautiful the bottle would look in my wedding detail shots. It also has an easy-to-close magnetic lid, which I love (what can I say, I'm a sucker for little details).

Another thing is that I am particularly picky with scents because of my asthma and allergies. It can easily become overwhelming, which is why I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't immediately trying to run away from my scent cloud after I spritzed it on. That's already a win in my book.

When testing Snif's newest scent, I paid particular attention to its longevity. It needs to last from the ceremony to the last dance, after all. Throughout the day, I would do little things like fix my hair or adjust the purse on my shoulder, and each time, I would be indugled by Vow Factor's refreshing notes. So it came as no surprise that after a full day of driving around, dining in a packed restaurant and working outside a coffee shop in Florida's hot and humid temps, I came home to my fiance and the first words out of his mouth (unprompted, might I add) were, "I can still smell it!" And he wasn't wrong—when I went to put my laundry in the washing machine, the scent still pleasantly lingered on the clothes I wore.

The bottom line: Vow Factor is a must-try for anyone, especially couples, looking to add a light, natural scent to their collection. It is versatile, smells lovely and wears well on the skin.
